Client: ROYAL
Tasks: Publicity, Grant Writing
In the fall of 2016, Canadian indie pop artist ROYAL hired NovaCurrent Public Relations to manage her television, print, and online publicity in conjunction with the release of her radio single, “Wild” – her first radio single since being a finalist in the 2014 Peak Performance Project. NovaCurrent created a campaign with a BC focus to bring attention to ROYAL’s release party shows in Vancouver and in her hometown of Vernon, along with a few selected national outlets.
As a result of this campaign, ROYAL earned over 15 media placements, which effectively promoted the single while creating extra buzz ahead of a planned grant application to the FACTOR Juried Sound Recording program. Press highlights included interviews and features by The Vernon Morning Star, 3AM Revelations, Canadian Beats, Northern Transmissions, My VanCity, Addicted Magazine, GO Okanagan on Shaw TV, City Lights on Novus TV, and Indie Mixtape on Shaw TV.
ROYAL – “Wild” Official Music Video
In the spring of 2017, ROYAL and NovaCurrent PR continued their work together with an application to the FACTOR Juried Sound Recording program.
We worked with ROYAL on all aspects of the initial application to the Sound Recording component of the program – including building supplementary materials, and designing a marketing plan.
ROYAL was approved for funding in the FACTOR Juried Sound Recording program in the summer of 2017. The funding was used for the creation, distribution, videography, and promotion of her 2018 album, “Heart of Shadows”.
In the fall of 2018, NovaCurrent Public Relations worked with ROYAL on the publicity outreach for her release of her album, “Heart of Shadows”. This outreach promoted the record’s lead single, “Vessel”, the album release itself, its Vancouver release show in early 2019, and the subsequent music video release for “Vessel” with special emphasis on its two lead actors, Tiera Skovbye and Jordan Connor of “Riverdale”.
From this campaign, ROYAL earned 80 media placements – including interviews and features from outlets in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia.
Highlights included an album premiere by Live in Limbo, a Track By Track feature by The Permanent Rain Press, interviews from OutLoudCulture, The New Nine, Shuffle Online, Canadian Beats, Talk Nerdy with Us, All Access, Kelowna Now, My Entertainment World, VENTS Magazine, and Music Musings and Such, and album reviews by Canadian Beats, Off the Record, Splendid Fred, and Staccatofy.
Following this campaign, ROYAL shared in a Leo Award for Best Music Video for “Vessel”.
